Fishing Lakes in Essex

Fishing is a great way to disconnect from the world, whether alone or with friends or family. And where better to do this than the Essex countryside? Our holiday parks in Essex have close access to some amazing fishing lakes, but there are also options for coarse fishing if that’s what you fancy.

Depending on which park you choose, there are options for camping, self-catering caravan stays, and even holiday home ownership. Check out the links to the specific parks below to see what’s available. You’ll have full access to the park’s amenities during your stay, too.

We imagine you probably know, but you need a fishing licence for lake fishing in the UK. Make sure you’ve got this sorted before you visit (you can buy one from the government website linked above).

Also, you’ll need a day ticket for fishing in Essex, which you can get directly from the fishing lake or from reception at the park. Some of our parks have lakes onsite, whereas others are conveniently located near public fishing lakes. Either way, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your stay.

Deciding to go on camping fishing holidays in Essex is the easy part. Choosing the perfect park for your stay will be a bit harder, but you can learn more about them below.

Holiday Parks Near Fishing Lakes in Essex

There are some great fishing lakes in Essex, regardless of whether you’re after carp, roach, perch, bream or something else. Here’s a quick roundup of our favourite parks in Essex with prime fishing opportunities.

Oaklands Holiday Park

Oaklands Holiday Park is located near Clacton-on-Sea. Conveniently, it’s situated right on the fishing lake, meaning you only need to step out your front door and you’ll be there.

You access the lake for fishing via a pontoon, meaning spots are limited. But this just makes it more inviting because you’ll be with other anglers, enjoying a day in the sunshine at this tranquil location.

The lake is heavily stocked with carp, roach and tench of good sizes. You’ll also find good access to estuary and sea fishing just down the road at St Osyth.

St Osyth

Speaking of St Osyth, the holiday park located on the beach is a great spot for coarse fishing holidays in Essex. We’ll also group in Martello Beach and Seawick Holiday Parks because they’re all fairly close together and offer the same fishing opportunities.

St Osyth, however, also has a small coarse fishing lake if you fancy taking a step away from the beach. The lake is a good choice for beginners because it’s easy-going and accessible. Again, it’s heavily stocked with carp, rudd, roach, and tench of good sizes.

St Osyth beach has a small slip for boat launching, and the beach itself is worth spending the day at. These 3 parks provide access to the others’ amenities, meaning you’ll have plenty of options for activities.

Steeple Bay

Located near Southminster, Steeple Bay is situated on the Blackwater estuary. The park has a small slipway that’s ideal for launching little boats, and provides great access for sea fishing.

The park also has its own fishing lake. While it’s on the smaller side, it’s exclusive to the park (day tickets are available from reception) and the lake holds a variety of fish. It’s another good choice for novice anglers, although more experienced fishers will love it, too.

Dovercourt

Dovercourt Holiday Park stands out, even amongst our beautiful Essex holiday destinations. It’s located near a Blue Flag Beach, which is perfect for those who might not want to spend all their time fishing. That said, the sea fishing opportunities at the park are pretty great.

Nearby is West Mersea Holiday Park, another great spot for sea fishing. There are plenty of fishing spots on Mersea Island, where you can catch mullet, bass, herring, cod, and more. With the perfect combination of idyllic coastline and great amenities, you can’t do much better than West Mersea for sea fishing.

What Else to Do on Your Fishing Holidays in Essex

Caravan holidays and fishing in Essex are great, but you can’t ignore everything else the county has to offer. So, if and when you decide to take a break from the lakes, here’s what else you can do.

Colchester Zoo

Colchester Zoo stands out among the UK’s zoos as a must-see attraction. It’s home to big cats, penguins, otters, a butterfly habitat, and much more. The zoo is a good choice for families (and everyone for that matter). There are a few hills, so make sure you wear comfy shoes.

Audley End House

Located near Saffron Walden, Audley End House is a 17th-century stately home. As you might expect from this kind of destination, it’s full of local history and is perfect if you fancy something a bit more relaxed.
