Dog Friendly Holiday Homes in Devon

When searching for the right holiday home, a location that works for you and your family’s needs is paramount. If you have a four-legged companion however, it’s vital to make sure the surrounding area works for them also.

You will have questions like ‘Where can I take my dogs on their daily walks (and adventures)?’ Well, we can help, and in this ongoing series of posts, compile a list of beautiful countryside and coastline trails that will have you returning time and time again, starting in the fabulous county of Devon. And naturally we have a huge range of suitable holiday homes for dogs available to view in these areas too.

Fingle Bridge and Woods

Fingle Bridge and Woods

Upon your arrival at Fingle Bridge, you have your choice of two paths to choose between. The first is a more leisurely path with a river running alongside, ideal for water-loving dogs – bring a towel in the car, because they will get wet! The other is a steeper route that can take up to two and half hour to complete, but should help tire out those canines that are constant bundles of energy. With both walks, you will be surrounded by breathtakingly pretty oak woodlands and wildlife.

Haldon Forest Park

Haldon Forest Park - Forestry Commission

There’s an astonishing 3,500 acres of woodland to be discovered at Haldon Forest Park. With miles and miles of different trails to discover, you can say goodbye to ‘the same old walk’. There’s more relaxed routes for little legs and longer walks if you really want to rack up the paw miles. With several off-lead areas, you can let also allow your pooch to run free and explore.

Berry Head Country Park

Berry Head Country Park

With incredible views of the surrounding cliffs and multiple places to start and finish, you and your dogs will see a different side of Berry Head every time you visit (we suggest taking the Coast path for maximum scenic pleasure). With any luck you will also get the chance to meet some of the wildlife residents; keep your eyes peeled for the Harbour Porpoise’s distinctive fin, the yellow wings of the Speckled Wood butterfly and the bright pink of the Pyramidal Orchid.

Froward Point

Froward Point walk - Carlton Fishacre

With so many ways to do the Froward Point walk, your dog will be spoilt for choice. Whatever route you decide to take, taking the time to bask in the view of the picturesque Mew Stone from the WW2 Brownstone Battery coastal defence lookout, a reward that no dog treat could ever match. (Admittedly Fido might not prefer it to a dog treat)

Saunton Sands

Take your pup along this three-and-a-half mile long, golden sand beach and be blown away by the stunning coastline. As Saunton Sands is a hugely popular dog walking destination, he or she will make new doggy friends daily. Also, it’s a popular destination for long-boarders in the summer, which will leave your four legged friend amazed… every time!

Tarr Steps - Exmoor National Park

Tarr Steps - Exmoor National Park

With so many walks to choose from at the Exmoor National Park, it’s hard to decide which path to take. However, we think the chance to walk across the River Barle on the 17-clapper bridge makes this decision easy. The bridge is constructed entirely from large stone slabs and boulders, and is the longest of its kind in Britain. Can you trust Rover to make it all the way across without jumping in for a swim? The steps are surrounded by a wonderful woodlands, which is all sign posted for a full circle walk from the steps and the surrounding area.
