Dog Friendly Holiday Homes in Essex

When searching for the right holiday home, an area that works for you and your family’s needs is all important, and, of course this includes your beloved dog companion. After all they are part of the family too.

One of the most likely questions will be ‘Where can I take my dogs on their daily walks (and adventures)?’ Well, we can help, and in this ongoing series of posts, have compliled a list of walking trails across countryside and coastline that should have you returning time and time again.

And naturally we have a huge range of suitable holiday homes for dogs available to view in this area too. This week we are looking at the magnificent county of Essex.

Dovercourt Bay Beach (1.3 miles) Dovercourt

This peaceful sand and shingle beach is home to two cast iron lighthouses, the High and the Low lighthouses – one is located on the beach and the other is off shore. Dovercourt Bay also holds a Blue Flag beach award of excellence – provided for meeting exceptional environmental education and management, water quality and safety services standards.

No matter how many legs you have, this walk will provide for a relaxed walk that will be filled with lighthouse intrigue and stunning sea views.

*Dogs are limited to certain areas of the beach from 1st May to 30th September. However, apart from certain sections of the beach, pups are allowed all year round.

Frinton Beach

Frinton Beach (11.3 miles) Martello Beach, Seawick and St Osyth Beach

This golden beach will be a hit for anyone who enjoys the sand in their paws. At Frinton beach you will have a wonderful sea view one side and a row of beautiful Victorian styled beach huts along a mile-long promenade on the other.

This beach takes pride in having no kiosks or shops, helping keeping the beach as litter free as possible, which will put any concerned walkers minds at ease from any unknown items being eaten accidently.

And if your furry one likes fossil hunting, he or she can do so on the neighbouring beach of Walton on the Naze.

Bradwell Beach

Bradwell Beach (11.3 miles) Steeple Bay

Bradwell Beach will be a delight for dog walkers with hounds who love to frolic. The beach is almost entirely flat, making long distances visible which will allow for your canine to run far and wide and they will remain safely in sight.

Your pup will enjoy many different terrains Bradwell beach such as grass, sand, shingle and of course the sea water on this lovely unspoilt landscape.

If your pooch is a bit of history buff, take a slight de-tour towards the Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall. This Grade 1 listed chapel was opened back in 654-AD and is still in use to this very day.

High Woods Country Park

High Woods Country Park (11.9 miles) Oaklands

This country park boasts wide open spaces and acres of lands to play fetch. With a lake and wildflower field to appreciate whilst your canine enjoys the fresh air.

Awarded the Green Flag Award in 2004 – provided for meeting 8 different standards, which include environmental management, biodiversity and community involvement to name a few. High Woods Country Park still holds the prestigious award to this day.

With so much to woodlands to explore and vast grassy open areas, your 4-legged friend will find something new to explore every visit.

Note: Dogs are to be kept on their leads around the lake… as many find jumping in for a swim irresistible!

Jaywick Sands Beach

Jaywick Sands Beach to Clacton Pier (5.8 miles) Martello Beach, Seawick and St Osyth Beach

For a magnificent view of the Essex coastline, begin your journey at Jaywick Sands Beach and head East to begin the 2 and a half mile adventure, whereby you and the pooch will stroll past not one, but TWO historic Martello Towers!

If for whatever reason those paws can’t make the full distance, remember, at any point you can stop and sit and enjoy the beautiful sandy beach, or if your dog doesn’t sit still you could even go for a dip in the sea.

A visit to Jaywick Sands will be sure to have tails wagging.
