The Best Destinations for Coastal Getaways in Autumn/Winter
We’re extending our season into November and December at 13 of our holiday parks. Find out why now is a great time to book with us and discover the top twenty beach resorts to visit in the UK.
For 2020, the typical holiday season has been a little different, with many of us staying on UK shores and taking a well-earned holiday later in the year. As a nation, we particularly love a seaside break and a Great British seaside staycation is on the cards for half of us at some point in the next three months.
Here at Park Holidays, we’ve seen more demand for autumn/winter coastal breaks than ever, which is why we have decided to extend our usual season and welcome guests until the week before Christmas 2020 at 13 of our parks. You can now book a late-autumn break with us.
So, what makes an out-of-season holiday on the coast so great? Well, we especially love taking long walks on the beaches, which are typically a lot quieter at this time of year - but just as beautiful!
To help you find the best coastal destination for your autumn/winter holiday, we have done some research, and we’re proud to say that many of the top ten locations are close to Park Holidays resorts.
We began by researching the nation’s favourite beaches in the UK (this gave us a list of 80 places). We then looked at accommodation options, nearby fish & chip shops, average weather, and even each beach’s cleanliness rating (because while we know you’re unlikely to be swimming, it’s nice to walk on a lovely clean beach).
So where came out on top?
Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
The beautiful resort town of Great Yarmouth is renowned for its long, sandy, and super clean beaches. In our research it scored highly as a great autumn/winter staycation destination, earning first place! Contributing factors included its 40 fish & chip shops, low rainfall (averaging just 66.9mm in November), and high number of sunshine hours (averaging 76 hours in November).

Bournemouth, Dorset, England
Another historic and popular seaside resort, Bournemouth took second place in our research thanks to its extensive accommodation options, 30 fish & chip shops, good average temperatures (11.5°C in November), plentiful sunshine (80.1 hour in November on average) and 5* clean beaches!

Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England
The Essex, Thames Estuary resort town of Southend-on-Sea has long been a British seaside favourite, and in our research, it scored well for low rainfall (averaging just 52.3mm in November) and sunshine (averaging 83.1 hour in November) in particular.
