When Jane and David first arrived at Kingfisher Holiday Park, they weren't looking to buy a holiday home.

In fact, they discovered the park completely by chance.

Having experienced repeated break-ins to their touring caravan while it was in storage, they decided to look for a seasonal pitch somewhere in North Yorkshire. After being unable to find availability at their usual park, they set off to explore the area and see what they could find.

"We said we'd stop at the first caravan park we saw. We came into Kingfisher, had a walk around, met some of the owners and immediately felt welcome."

That spontaneous visit was more than two decades ago.

Today, Jane and David are celebrating 23 years at Kingfisher and say they've never felt the need to look elsewhere.

A place that feels like home

Over the years, Jane and David have upgraded caravans, made lifelong friends and watched the park evolve, but the reasons they fell in love with Kingfisher remain exactly the same.

"It's a very quiet country park. If you want noise, there are other parks for that. We love the peace and quiet here."

For Jane and David, ownership is about having somewhere to slow down and enjoy life at their own pace.

"On a Friday, I can't wait to be back here. If I want to go out, I can go out. If I don't, I can sit with my knitting, relax and enjoy being here."

The couple visit almost every weekend during the season, travelling just over an hour from home.

"When March comes around, I can't wait for the season to start again."

Their story reflects something many people are looking for today: a place that gives them space to relax, enjoy nature and spend quality time together, without the pressures of everyday life.  

More than a holiday park

One of the things Jane and David enjoy most about Kingfisher is the sense of community.

"We've seen people come and go over the years, but we've made friendships that have lasted for years."

"Everybody's friendly. If somebody needs help, there's always someone willing to help."

From sharing cups of tea with neighbours to helping new arrivals settle in, the welcoming atmosphere has always been one of Kingfisher's most cherished qualities.

"If you want company, you've got company. If you want your own space, that's fine too."

It's this balance of community and privacy that has helped so many owners build lasting connections while still enjoying the tranquillity of the park.

A hidden gem in North Yorkshire

Set close to Knaresborough and Harrogate, Kingfisher offers peaceful surroundings while keeping some of Yorkshire's most popular destinations within easy reach.

"There's really plenty to see and do around here."

The couple regularly enjoy days out in Harrogate, York, Skipton, Ripon and the surrounding countryside, making the park the perfect base for exploring the region.

"You get the peace of the countryside, but you're never far from shops, restaurants and places to visit."

They are also passionate about the wildlife that surrounds the park.

"The wildlife is magnificent. You can sit outside and watch the red kites for hours."

From woodland walks and local nature spots to bustling market towns and historic attractions, it's a location they've never grown tired of.

Looking ahead with Park Holidays

Kingfisher recently became part of the Park Holidays UK family and we're excited to begin the next chapter for this much-loved park.

While maintaining the peaceful character that existing owners value so highly, we've already begun making improvements. We've introduced additional safety measures around the lakes and play park to enhance the experience for owners and visitors alike.

Over the coming months and years, we'll continue to identify opportunities to improve facilities, enhance the park environment and protect everything that makes Kingfisher special.

As Jane and David's story shows, Kingfisher has long been one of North Yorkshire's hidden gems. Our ambition is to preserve that charm while creating even more reasons for people to love owning here.
