It's the most magical time of year! And what better way to celebrate the festive period than a visit to one of these amazing seasonal events?
From Christmas markets to Christmas tree festivals, these events are sure to make you feel super Christmassy, and what’s even better - they are all completely free to attend!
Christmas Markets and Festivals
Southampton Christmas Market
Dates: November 14th – December 23rd, 2019
The Southampton Christmas Market includes over 40 independent stallholders offering a large variety of handmade, authentic, and original gifts including wooden toys, soaps, jewellery, Christmas decorations, and much more! The market also hosts the UK’s only ‘Flying Santa’ which takes to the sky twice every day above the chalets (Monday – Saturday at 5pm and 7pm, Sundays 4pm and 6pm, subject to weather conditions) a truly magical spectacle for the whole family. There are also open-air bars with live music which stay open until 10pm daily.
Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market
Dates: November 21st – December 22nd, 2019
Inspired by traditional German Christmas markets, Winchester Cathedral's Christmas Market attracts almost half a million visitors each year. It’s recognised as one of the best in Europe because of its unique location, high quality exhibitors, and bustling atmosphere.
Totnes Christmas Festival
Date: 3rd, 10th, and 17th December, 2019
The Totnes Christmas Festival sees an influx of people every year visiting the medieval High Street to enjoy the craft stalls, locally made food and drinks, and local entertainment. There will be approximately 60 stalls in the main street, so plenty to browse and pick up some last minute unique Christmas gifts for loved ones. The festival runs from 3-9pm and there is free park and ride at Follaton House.
Eastbourne Christmas Market
Date: 19th – 21st December, 2019
This annual Christmas market takes place along the pedestrianised precinct of Terminus Road in the heart of the Eastbourne Town Centre. Here you can expect to find traditional Christmas stalls selling locally handmade crafts, Sussex wines and gins, homemade fudge and plenty of sweet treats. For the little ones there will also be entertainment and a funfair, plus an attractive Christmas tree and light display.
Brighton Christmas Fairs
Date: 16th November, 2019
Now with more stalls than ever, the Brighton Christmas Fair is now in its sixth year. A festive afternoon that the whole family can enjoy, there is sure to be some fantastic local craft stalls full of unique and handmade gifts to help with your Christmas shopping needs. There is limited parking available at the site, you can access the fair through the main entrance of the building.
Dartmoor Zoo Christmas Craft Fair
Date: 5th December, 2019
At the time of year where consumption and waste is at its highest, Dartmoor Zoo will be hosting a Christmas Craft Fair with planet Earth in mind, and a strong focus on sustainability. Here you’ll find local, eco-friendly, responsible businesses selling handmade, recycled, reusable and wildlife focused products – the perfect gifts for your loved ones with the added bonus that they don’t harm the environment. This is an indoor event and there will also be mulled wine, mince pies and snacks (presumably with a few Vegan options) available in the restaurant.
Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre
Date: 21st – 24th November, 2019
Now in its eighteenth year, the award winning Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre is getting bigger and better every time. The fayre has so much going on including an opening parade and fireworks, a cookery theatre and food area in the Cathedral grounds, free children’s activities, and a fun fair on Angel Hill. Plus, with over 300 Christmas stalls selling a selection of goods, it has the perfect mix of old and new.
Christmas Shopping Day at The De La Warr Pavilion
Date: 23rd November and 7th December, 2019
The De La Warr Pavilion is free to enter, and on the 23rd November and 7th December they are offering 10% off all products sold in their shop to help you fill up those stockings or find something unusual for a loved one. The shop is full of creative gifts for family and friends including jewellery, toys, books, and even cards and wrapping paper. Why not stop in the café afterwards for a bite to eat and enjoy the incredible views that the Bexhill coast has to offer?
Christmas Tree Festival
Date: 3rd – 7th December, 2019
This charity event is back by popular demand and will include lots of activities throughout the week for the whole family. This year the festival will include a life-size nativity, live entertainment, plus lots of children’s activities to keep the little ones entertained. There will also, of course, be 60+ Christmas trees decorated for you to browse – maybe some inspiration for your own Christmas tree! Refreshments will also be available at the festival.
Christmas Celebrations at the Museum
Date: 23rd November, 2019
The Red House Museum is hosting an afternoon of free seasonal fun and entertainment for the whole family, including live music in the gallery and a free Christmas-lantern making workshop (booking in advance is required). Join them as they turn on the Christmas lights in the History of Christchurch High Street exhibition, then enjoy a free Christmas treat with the purchase of a hot drink from the café.
