Kent is one of the most popular areas in the country for a second home

Staycations boost UK second home market

A new report commissioned by Knight Frank suggests that staycations have helped push second home ownership in the South West to a record high number in 2010.

The rising popularity of "generational" holidays - breaks encompassing grandparents, children and grandchildren, combined with more people wanting to holiday at home has led to a boom in second home ownership in the UK.

With demand for holiday lets in the South West up as much as 70% in the early months of this year (in comparison to 2010) Kent in particular has become an an ideal focus point for this growing second-home trend.

Park holidays UK currently have 6 Parks based in the South West area - each offering a wide range of static holiday homes and different models for sale - starting from as low as £4995.

Knight Frank research also suggests that the neighbourhood with the most second homes is on the Isle of Sheppey - where Park Holidays UK currently have 2 parks with many homes available: Harts and Sheerness.

To quote Graine Gilmore, Head of UK Residential Research at Knight Frank:

"The staycation trend seen in recent years looks set to continue as the weak pound makes the option of holidaying abroad or buying a home overseas less attractive. Instead buyers are choosing a second home in the UK. The possibility of letting out the property when you are not staying also means that it becomes an investment as well as a luxury."
