Holidaying in Devon is a great choice at any time of year

Historic coast to be enjoyed on south-west caravan holidays for years to come

People who are looking to book south-west caravan holidays in the future may consider Devon, after it was revealed that the coastline of nearby Cornwall is being given a boost through a new maritime strategy.

According to the Western Morning News, the scheme is aimed at helping businesses on the coast worth in the region of £485 million, as well as protecting the local environment.

Malcolm Bell of Visit Cornwall said maintaining the county's maritime tradition is important for ensuring holidaymakers continue to flock to the area.

He remarked: "Our marine and coastal environment, landscape and activities are a key factor in people choosing Cornwall, which has been voted best UK destination three years in a row."

According to Mr Bell, approximately 4.5 million people visit Cornwall each year, spending a collective £1.4 billion and supporting more than 53,000 jobs both directly and indirectly.

The new strategy is being formulated by Cornwall Council and the organisation's maritime manager, Andy Brigden stated it would help those who rely on this critical local heritage to make a living.

He said: "The strategy will guide the future direction of work, increase the recognition of the importance of the maritime sector and respond to the various challenges and opportunities that lie ahead."

Mr Brigden urged people involved in the county's coastline and sea ventures to get involved by offering opinions on a draft consultation developed for the initiative.

Issues covered in the consultation include marine renewable energy, boatbuilding, surfing, fishing and tourism.

There will also be an effort to improve conservation methods to ensure Cornwall's cliffs, reefs, islands, wildlife and beaches remain intact.

Those who are looking to enjoy the south-west coastline during a caravan holiday over the coming weeks may wish to head to Dorset, as the area's county council recently revealed it will be holding a number of guided walks to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
