There are plenty of options to choose from when buying a caravan

Condition is crucial when browsing caravans for sale

Taking a look at caravans for sale can be a thrilling experience, especially for those who are investing in a mobile holiday home for the first time.

Caravan holidays offer freedom, affordability and access to some of the most beautiful parts of the UK, so it is no surprise that their popularity is so strong.

However, rather than being carried away by the moment, it is important to view a purchase as a serious investment and take plenty of time to ensure it is done correctly.

A spokeswoman for the National Caravan Council has issued a series of tips designed to help buyers avoid mistakes and problems when snapping up a caravan.

She suggested that second-hand models are among the most popular with first-time buyers and likened the process to buying a used car.

"Condition is king, so it's often better to buy an older model that has had lighter use," the representative stated.

"You may pay a little more at a reputable dealer, one for example that is a member of the trade association, the NCC. They should provide a warranty and the peace of mind that the vehicle has been checked over and serviced."

She went on to advise heading to industry trade shows and exhibitions, such as the Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Such events are the perfect way to learn more about caravans, work out what provides the best value for money in the market and speak to people who are closely involved with the trade.

A host of official organisations and bodies will be in attendance, as well as industry magazines and shows.

Mike Buttigieg, executive producer of The Caravan Channel, this month backed the idea of visiting trade shows in order to gain more knowledge about caravans for sale. He also noted the Caravan and Motorhome Show in Manchester as a great option.
