Parks in space mission to avoid pitch battles

Park Holidays UK is urgently bringing forward plans to open new holiday home developments on its parks as pressure on pitch availability continues to grow.

Despite adding hundreds of new pitches this year across its 28 parks, the group says that there is a real danger of demand outstripping supply if it doesn't act soon.

The new developments, many of which have received planning consent, will help mitigate the risk of would-be buyers having to join waiting lists for pitches.

"Once upon a time, the number of people retiring from their holiday homes would roughly equal the volume of new buyers we welcomed," said Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish.

"But in recent years, there has been a radical shift in this balance as fewer and fewer owners give up their holiday homes, and more and more buyers are coming along.

"At the moment, we can usually accommodate new buyers immediately – but at a couple of our parks, short delays could soon become a possibility.

"We can still offer many choices, but the only way to ensure not having to join a waiting is to stake a claim sooner rather than later," said Tony.

At present, he added, demand is not affecting prices – but Park Holidays UK could give no guarantee that these would remain unchanged in the future.

In fact, said Tony, the group is presently encouraging customers to make early decisions by stripping thousands of pounds from the price of its 2017 stock.

The holiday homes are largely ex-display models which must now make way on park showgrounds for the new autumn deliveries from UK manufacturers.

They range from starter-models aimed at first-time buyers to top-end caravan holiday homes and lodges with full luxury specifications.

In another move designed to encourage quick decisions, Park Holidays UK is also offering buyers free pitch fees both for the remainder of this year, and for the whole of 2018.

Other incentives are available on selected models – and low-deposit finance can also be provided if families prefer not to use their own funds.

"This year we have created many new pitches on our parks, and are intending to go full tilt in developing hundreds more in the run-up to next season," said Tony.

"We are, of course, delighted to receive this ringing endorsement for our holiday home lifestyles – and will continue to put value and quality to the fore as we continue to expand," he added.
