Devon breaks can include trips to the county's top attractions

Bad weather 'is no obstacle to fun and exciting caravan holiday'

With many parts of Britain currently being battered by strong winds and heavy rain, one thing that may not be on the minds of many is a caravan holiday on the south coast of England.

But, in the opinion of an expert, tourists have nothing to worry about when choosing to holiday at home, even at times of poor weather.

Laura Smith, destination public relations manager at VisitEngland, explained the country is used to anything the skies can drop on it and has prepared adequately.

Therefore, this is not a nation that shuts down at the first sight of rain or fog, as there is still a "huge array" of activities to be enjoyed, even when the weather is not perfect.

"From museums and galleries, to aquariums, there is a whole range of things to do to suit all ages and personalities," Ms Smith explained, adding indoor fun is in plentiful supply.

"If rain has stopped a zoo visit, you could consider an aquarium or natural history museum. Or replace a countryside walk with a trip to the Eden Project or the Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm," the industry insider continued.

Her words suggest that, even in January or February, a caravan holiday in England has the potential to include plenty of fun and adventure.

Ms Smith added that some of the most enjoyable activities of all are free and rely only on access to nature, such as an "invigorating walk on the beach", which she highly recommends.

Those who choose to do this in the cold or wet could recover from their exertions in a country pub, where the fire and tasty fare will warm anybody in no time.

Last week, Ms Smith told how the UK is home to some wonderful free attractions, making an enjoyable time in the nation realistic even to tourists without a huge budget.
