Delicious food is a theme of holidays in the south

South of England restaurants are a highlight of UK holidays

 

Tourists looking to take a holiday in the UK may wish to focus their attention on the south of England – particularly if they consider themselves to be foodies.

 

Colin Tenwick, chief executive officer of Livebookings, which takes table reservations via its online portal, recommended several spots that are popular with those who eat out.

 

Many of the premier dining establishments and locations in the nation are, unsurprisingly perhaps, to be found in London – which is easily accessible from the holiday parks of Sussex, Kent and Essex.

 

The expert noted that Covent Garden, in the heart of the capital, is the most popular destination of all in the city among those seeking a high-quality meal.

 

He admitted it narrowly beats areas such as Mayfair, the City, Soho, Chinatown and Green Park.

 

"Restaurants in tourist hotspots and business hubs are often the most popular for people looking to eat out and are more likely to have a high density of diverse restaurants from which they can choose," Mr Tenwick stated.

 

He went on to suggest that restaurants backed by a celebrity chef are also popular with Britons.

 

The good news for those holidaying in the south is that there are plenty of such establishments located in the region.

 

For example, Jamie's Italian outlets and Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck in Berkshire are top-quality places to eat.

 

The London Restaurant Festival is another indicator of which restaurants are the most in demand, with Mr Tenwick suggesting Gordon Ramsay's eateries are performing well.

 

"Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay remains as popular as ever, with four out of the ten most-booked venues for this year's event being Ramsay restaurants," he said.

 

Rhonda Carrier, head of content at UK holiday ideas and inspiration provider Takethefamily.com, recently advised people to take a holiday in the UK at this time of year, recommending the coast as the ideal place to head to.
