Holiday parks can be the perfect bases for days out in London

London 'is a must for those on caravan holidays in 2012'

People and families on caravan holidays in the south of England next year will increasingly look to London as the ideal place to spend some time.

It is sure to be a huge year in the English capital's history and those staying at holiday parks close to it will be in a position to enjoy the celebrations.

Tom Hall, a contributor at Lonely Planet, has spoken of what people in the city have to look forward to in 2012.

Of course, London over the next 12 months will be defined by two huge events – the Olympic Games and the Queen's diamond jubilee.

It is these that Mr Hall expects to attract a huge number of people to the south in order to share the experiences.

He said it is not a surprise that the publication has London down as its top destination of 2012 for prospective holidaymakers.

"Essentially we had a bit of a taster of it this year with the royal wedding and when London is showing off with a major big party it does get people thinking about coming here," the expert stated.

Mr Hall went on to explain that 2011 has also been a "really good year" for the UK tourism industry, as people look to the country as somewhere to enjoy a quality break.

It may be that its status as a top spot for visitors is only set to improve as the sporting jewel and royal celebration come to town in the months ahead.

Britons who prefer the countryside to the city have also been given a recommendation by Lonely Planet.

In its Best of Travel 2012 guide, the organisation put forward the Welsh coast as the top regional destination – and it may be accessible to those staying at the caravan parks of the West Country.
