Hampshire caravan holidays 'a great year-round option'

Tourists contemplating a caravan holiday in Hampshire have been advised that there will be plenty to do, no matter whether they visit in spring, summer, autumn or winter.

Andrew Bateman, tourism manager at Hampshire County Council, has spoken on the subject of year-round activities in the south coast county.

He suggested it is a "great place" to spend some time over the winter months, as all of its top attractions remain open throughout the colder time of the year.

"You can see HMS Victory and other famous ships at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, see the snow leopard cubs at Marwell Wildlife, near Winchester, or if your idea of discovering picture postcard villages and market towns is more your thing, then the county has these aplenty," stated Mr Bateman.

There are also a huge number of Christmas-themed events and attractions on offer to those staying in Hampshire over the festive season.

For example, the expert identified the outdoor ice skating rink in Winchester as a particular highlight, while just a short distance away the German market by Winchester Cathedral is a must.

Mr Bateman went on to recommend a Victorian event at Beaulieu National Motor Museum, where visitors will be treated to an authentic experience of what it was like to live 100 years ago.

Another option is the Watercress Line steam railway in Alresford, which is this year hosting a special Christmas Leave on Watercress Line festival.

This is due to feature songs, dance and steam trains from the World War II period.

Dorset County Council has recently suggested heading further along the shore to the Jurassic Coast, which is this month celebrating its tenth anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The area is said to showcase rock formations that date back some 185 million years, as well as other historic artefacts.
