Film buffs can get close to blockbuster sets on south coast caravan holiday
Film fans out there keen to get closer to their favourite movies might want to book a caravan holiday on the south coast of the UK, where they can go and spend time on location where the pictures were filmed.
VisitEngland has produced a showcase of some of the places where these flicks were set, such as My Week with Marilyn, out in cinemas this weekend (November 18th). This film - which details the week the blonde bombshell spent in England making The Prince and the Showgirl - took place on location in and around the capital and people may well recognise some of the places on a trip to the big smoke.
Alternatively, holidaymakers might want to head even further south towards Devon, Dartmoor and Castle Combe. It was here that War Horse was filmed, based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo. Set in Devon at the start of the first world war, the movie focuses on the bond between a young man and his horse. It was directed by Steven Spielberg, who himself was impressed with the local countryside, commenting on the sheer beauty of the Dartmoor skies and landscapes.
Another great choice for film fans looking to book a caravan holiday for a wonderful time away could be Essex, where The Woman in Black was filmed. This story - featuring the encounter of a young lawyer with the ghost of a woman hell-bent on revenge - is based on the novel by Susan Hill and has also been a very successful West End production.
The picture was filmed on location at Layer Marney Tower, near Colchester, which was built during the reign of Henry VIII. Those who do decide to head to this part of the world will be able to spend their days walking around the River Blackwater and in the surrounding countryside.
Travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com Bob Atkinson recently noted that film, TV and sport have a big impact on destination decisions for holidaymakers, predicting that the Olympics will be a source of inspiration for anyone about to book a trip away.
