The countryside can provide the space to get fit

Could caravan holiday provide the ideal fitness break?

With the new year upon us, it is no surprise that many people are hoping to improve their health and fitness by dedicating more time to exercise as one of their resolutions.

As such, why not book a caravan holiday in the south of England and use the time away to get your year off to a super-active start?

Charlene Hutsebaut, exercise expert for The De-Stress Diet, explained there are many factors people consider when it comes to physical activity – starting with their actual choice of pursuit.

"What one should look for is how they feel during the activity. Is it fun? Does it make them feel good? Does it enhance their body awareness? Is there a sense of looking forward to the next time they do it?" the expert stated.

Options available to those on caravan holidays are plentiful and variable, so there should be something that is just right for everybody.

In particular, those who choose a holiday park close to or in a national park will be well catered for, as the vast areas of green land provide the ideal backdrop for a physical break.

Walking in the South Downs, cycling in the New Forest, hiking on Dartmoor or even running the Jurassic Coast in Dorset might all appeal to fitness aficionados.

"One key to sticking with a programme is to start off slowly and build up to more as the weeks and months pass," Ms Hutsebaut continued, noting this should allow a sense of achievement to be enjoyed.

The Department of Health recently urged Britons to focus on fitness over the coming months, suggesting those who do will reap the benefits, possibly to a far greater extent than they initially imagine.

It recommended physical exercise as one of the best ways to ensure a prosperous 2012 in terms of personal wellbeing.
