UK Staycations up 15%

Staycations on the rise as more Brits opt for a UK Holiday

Latest figures show that the number of people from the UK choosing "staycations" for their holidays has increased by 15% in the last year.

According to the Office of National Statistics, 2009 saw a 15% drop in British foreign holidays, the biggest decline since records began. The number of trips being made by Brits to foreign countries (both holidays and business) fell at the fastest rate since the 1970s.

It recorded 58.6 million trips, compared to nearly 69 million in 2008, and says the fall was mirrored by foreign visitors coming to visit Britain too.

And according to further research from the CSMA club - who surveyed just over 3000 members.

23% are taking more UK breaks this year than last year

11% have been deterred from going abroad because of Europe's financial instability

6% are worried about ash cloud problems

7% are put off because of the threat of airline strikes

25% are staying in the UK in order to save money.

None of this comes as a surprise to us here at Park Holidays UK, who have long held the view that the UK holiday is better value, far less hassle in terms of travel, more often than not offers comparable hot weather and has as many, if not more, fantastic activities for the family to enjoy. Factor in our spectacular landscape, beautiful countryside, great cuisine, and welcoming demeanour and you can easily understand why so many holiday-makers are choosing the benefits of the UK "staycation."
